2027: LP rules out alliances with ADC, PDP and others

The Labor Party in Lagos State on Friday ruled out any alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also reaffirmed its strength, unity and commitment to providing credible leadership to the Nigerian people, despite recent defections and internal leadership disputes.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference in Lagos, the party’s Secretary General, Sam Okpala, said the briefing was necessary because of speculation over the party’s future.

He said: β€œWe want to assure the people of Nigeria and Lagos that the Labor Party will survive. We are not aligned with any political party.

β€œThe Labor Party remains the best platform because of what we represent – social democracy, equality and people-oriented government.”

According to him, the LP remains the only political party in Nigeria that is not owned and controlled by a small group of people.

β€œThis party belongs to the people and working class across Nigeria.

β€œThat is why we can confidently say that the Labor Party remains one of the largest political platforms in the country,” Okpala added.

He emphasized that the party structure in the state remains intact in all local government areas.

Okpala also said all factions at the state level are working together to present credible candidates for the 2027 elections.

“All Labor Party groups in this state are working together to produce the best candidates who will protect the interests of the people,” he said.

The LP chief described leadership struggles at the national level as part of normal democratic challenges.

He said that no political party was immune from internal disputes.

β€œThe problem of a leadership crisis is not unusual for the Labor Party, even advanced democratic countries experience internal strife.

“What is important is the ability to resolve it through constitutional means,” he concluded.
