Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party deputy governorship candidate, Hajia (Dr.) ‘Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has challenged opposition politicians to prepare for defeat in the 2027 elections, declaring that the PDP is confident of winning the polls.
Kolapo, however, assured opposition members that they would not be victimized or abandoned if the PDP emerged victorious, saying politics should not destroy bonds between the people of Ogun State.
He spoke while addressing more than 1,000 PDP members at the party meeting at Ijemo Zone in Ward 5, Abeokuta South, where party leaders and stakeholders from across the constituency rallied support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The deputy governorship candidate urged Ogun residents to vote for all PDP candidates from the National Assembly to the state House of Assembly, saying the party is poised for victory at all levels.
Kolapo said opposition politicians were justified in being concerned about the outcome of the elections, insisting that the political consciousness of Ogun residents had evolved beyond what he described as the pursuit of personal interests at the expense of the people.
He said: “We want to assure our brothers and sisters in the opposition, who know the truth but are running helter-skelter to protect their ‘pots’, that they will still be able to eat after we beat them at the polls.
“We will not allow politics to break the bond between the true sons and daughters of Ogun State. We know that when the situation develops, the outsiders who are selling now because of their pockets will abandon them, but we will never do that. So they will come closer.”
Kolapo, who is the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and Ameerah of Ogun State, also said his acceptance by the people of Egbaland and the state was not a product of his recent political involvement.
He argued that the well-being of the people had remained at the center of his activities long before he joined partisan politics.
The meeting was addressed by the State Vice President of the PDP, Hon. Biodun Ogunremi, has called on party members to intensify their door-to-door mobilization campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ogunremi said the party should consolidate its grassroots support and increase its margin of victory by reaching out to more residents in communities.
“The masses are tired of the pain and are with us. At the Center we have deputy governor and senator Iyabo Obasanjo. This is what gives them headaches.
“Many stakeholders know that the welfare of Ogun indigenous people is the priority of the PDP. That is why they are with us,” he said.
Also, the Director General of the PDP Campaign Council in Ogun State, Senior Chief Mustapha Owolabi, has described the 2027 elections as a “done deal”, expressing confidence that voters in Ogun Central and other parts of the state will support the party.
He said the electorate is aware of the prevailing political realities and will not “settle for less” in the 2027 elections.
The meeting concluded with a show of solidarity from Ijemo residents and PDP members as party leaders sought to strengthen the grassroots structure of the organization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
