Kwara APC primaries: incumbent Reps member, Ismail, loses protection to former AbdulRazaq spokesperson


The sitting member representing Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency of Kwara State in the House of Representatives, Hon Tijani Ismail, on Saturday lost his ward to the leading candidate in the 2017 election race and former spokesperson to the state governor, Dr Rafiu Ajakaye.

It was a clean race for Ajakaye, who beat the incumbent by huge margins across the constituency.

At several polling stations in Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun, party supporters and supporters voted en masse for Ajakaye, putting him in an advantageous position to beat the incumbent by huge margins across the constituency.

In Ipee (Oyun), Ajakaye got 1551 votes against Ismail’s 0 vote.

In Erin Ile South, where Tijani is from, Ajakaye got 707 votes to beat other contestants, including Tijani, who got zero votes.

In his neighborhood of Ile Ire, Ajakaye won by a landslide getting 300 votes to Tijani’s 1 vote.

The elections took place in a carnival atmosphere that underlines his reputation as a popular person and credible figure.

Ajakaye has won in all constituencies declared so far in the 42-ward constituency as of Saturday afternoon.

Earlier, key Offa aspirants Alhaji Femi White and Alhaji Ogunbiyi Ojokure resigned from the race calling on their supporters to vote en masse for Ajakaye, a gesture they attribute to the goodwill of the governor and his former spokesperson Ajakaye.

In Ilorin East/South, four former aspirants in the race have resigned from former Public Works Commissioner Abdulquawiy Olododo following the intervention of party elders in the area.

In Magaji Are II, Olododo voted 2012 against the current Yinka Aluko’s 312. In Akanbi V, Olododo obtained 5,122 votes to Aluko’s 550, emerging the clear favorite in a poll involving 9 contenders.

In the Edu/Moro/Patigi federal constituency, former TESCOM chairman Taoheed Abubakar (Car Wash) is also said to be ahead.

Blueprint.ng reports that the exercise was largely peaceful in the six federal constituencies.
