Election 2027: NDC closes sale of presidential forms


The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the closure of the sale and collection of expression of interest forms for the post of President ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party, however, has extended by one week the deadline for collecting expression of interest forms for aspirants to access other elective positions.

In a statement released in Abuja and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC disclosed that the deadline previously set for 6pm on Sunday 17 May 2026, has now been moved to 12pm midnight on Sunday 24 May 2026.

According to the statement, the extension affects aspirants running for seats in the state Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship positions.

The party, however, underlined that the collection of forms to express interest in the position of president is officially closed.

The screening exercise begins on May 19

The party also released details of the screening calendar for aspirants who have purchased and completed their forms.

According to the statement, the screening and prequalification exercise will begin on Tuesday, May 19 and end on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

It further said that the collection and return of application forms for selected and cleared aspirants will begin on Wednesday, May 20, and close on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The NDC warned that no further extension will be granted after the new deadline and urged aspirants to strictly adhere to all timelines and procedures.

“All aspirants are required to ensure strict compliance with the deadline as no extension will be granted beyond the closing date,” the statement said.

Aspirants are requested to submit relevant documents

The party directed all aspirants to appear before the screening committee at designated venues nationwide with relevant documents for verification and evaluation.

Documents required include educational certificates, birth certificate or declaration of age, voter ID card, party card, curriculum vitae and four recent passport photographs.

According to the statement, all submitted documents must be provided in six copies each.

“All aspirants should appear for pre-qualification screening and interviews at designated locations across the country as advertised earlier,” the party said.

Screening to consider abilities, character, local peculiarities

The NDC said the screening process will be guided by several factors, including the wishes of the electorate, local political considerations, competence, ability and personal character of the aspirants.

The party also instructed the screening committee to consider its affirmative action policy for women, youth and people living with disabilities.

He encouraged aspirants to adopt consensus building mechanisms where necessary, stressing that only candidates who have successfully passed the screening exercise would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

“The Screening Committee must take note of the party’s affirmative action policy for women, youth and people living with disabilities,” the statement adds.

The party reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible internal process ahead of the 2027 elections.
