He rose to stardom with the release of the song “With You”, after signing a record deal with Sydney Talker’s Neville Records in 2022, earning him his first entry on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 singles chart at number forty-eight on February 14, 2022. Early life Sulaimon Shekoni Abiola grew up in Shibiri-Ojo and comes from a family of ten. He tells Pulse Nigeria author Onyema Courage in an interview: “My dad advised me to learn a skill as making music was not helping me pay the bills.” From then on, Sulaimon worked as a road mechanic on Ojo Street, repairing vehicles, to earn a living and support his family and finance his musical career. Career He began his musical career on Ojo Street. In 2021, Khaid posted a viral freestyle on Instagram that caught the attention of Sydney Talker, who offered him a recording contract and introduced him to the public on January 20, 2022 as the first artist on Sydney’s Neville Records. She then released her first single “With You” on January 28, 2022, which peaked at number 48 on Nigeria’s TurnTable chart. The accompanying music video was directed by Olu the Wave and currently has 4.1 million views on YouTube, as of February 2023. On April 22, 2022, he released “SKI”, with its music video directed by Sydney Talker. According to The Native author Wonu Osikoya, “Ski paints an honest picture of his life before fame.”[6] On May 27, 2022, Khaid released his debut six-track EP, Diversity (stylized as DIVERSITY). In his review for The Native, Wonu Osikoya called the EP “A collage of vibrant sounds that will appeal to the young and the young at heart.”[7] On June 4, 2022, Khaid topped the Pulse Nigeria Future Sounds Vol.10 playlist with his single “With You”.[8]

On June 22, 2022, he was named Apple Music’s Up Next Artist for Nigeria.[9] On August 2, 2022, he reveals how a Sydney Talker DM changed his life, during an interview on the Midday Show with Do2tun and Eve on Cool FM 96.9 Lagos.[10] On November 9, 2022, she released “Amala”, which became her long-awaited single after her freestyle went viral on Instagram and TikTok.[11] “Amala” features guest vocals from Zlatan and Rexxie, who also serves as producer. The accompanying visualizer, directed by Sydney Talker. On November 14, 2022, “Amala” debuted at number 91 on Nigeria TurnTable’s Official Top 100 Songs, number 66 on Top Streaming Songs.[12] and number 24 on Top Street-POP Songs.[13] On January 20, 2023, “Jolie” debuted at number 92 on Nigeria’s TurnTable Official Top 100 Songs and was released for digital streaming on January 25, 2023.[14] and was named one of the best Afrobeats songs currently by OkayAfrica.[15] On January 30, 2023, he was ranked #1 on TurnTable’s NXT Emerging Top Artists.[16]

On January 31, 2023, Spotify cited him as one of the emerging artists to watch out for in Nigeria, along with Tempoe and Poco Lee.[17] On February 13, 2023, “Jolie” peaked at number 7 on Nigeria TurnTable’s Official Top 100 Songs.[18] On February 14, 2023, Sydney Talker shares a screenshot of her Instagram DM, where Davido leaves a comment on “Jolie,” saying, “I’ve played this song like 100 times in my house.”[19] On February 18, 2023, “Jolie” was ranked #5 on TheCable’s chart.[20] list of the 10 TCL radio picks of the week.
