The Lagos government has charged the NURTW chief over the alleged murder of a delivery driver

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday arraigned the 55-year-old head of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsudeen Oladiti, at the State High Court, Ikeja, for the alleged murder of a delivery driver.

Oladiti is on trial on three counts of involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy and attempted murder.

State Counsel, Mr Jubril Kareem, told the court that the accused and another person who is still at large committed the offenses between August 27 and September 17, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island.

Kareem said the defendant allegedly caused Ramon Imam’s death by beating him with his fists and repeatedly hitting him on the head and face.

He told the court that Oladiti allegedly attempted to kill Samuel Omale by attacking him.

Prosecutors said the offense contravened Sections 230, 224 and 411 of the 2015 Lagos State Criminal Law.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following his application, defense counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Ajanaku, informed the court of his bail application dated April 27.
Ajanaku said the application had been submitted to the prosecutor’s office.

Prosecutors did not raise any objections to the bail application.

But he noted that the defense had requested an order directing the correctional center to ascertain the defendant’s health status.

Defense attorneys confirmed the same.

Justice Lawal Alebiosu granted the request and ordered the Superintendent of Corrections, Kirikiri, to ascertain the health status of the accused at the government hospital.

Previously, the judge had rejected the bail application because there were several errors.

He adjourned the matter to June 15 for the start of the trial.
