FitChild Sport Education Limited has launched a physical literacy program aimed at promoting sports education and holistic child development in primary schools across Lagos State.
During the official launch of the initiative, the Founder and CEO of FitChild Sport Education Limited, Moses Ozoumeh, said the program was designed to enhance the psychomotor, cognitive, social and affective development of children through structured sports activities.
According to Ozoumeh, the initiative would initially begin with a pilot scheme involving 20 public primary schools across Lagos State before wider implementation.

He explained that the program goes beyond sports participation and focuses on helping children develop learning readiness, problem-solving skills and social interaction skills.
“Our goal at the end of this program is to have a holistic child: a child who is in good psychomotor, cognitive, social and effective shape,” he said.
Ozoumeh noted that students would participate weekly in different physical literacy exercises, including obstacle tunnel cycles and target throwing cycles, which are designed to develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing and kicking.
He added that talented students identified during the program would be exposed to competitive sports activities to further develop their skills.
“At the end of the program, we will identify children gifted in various skills. Thanks to this initiative, many of them will develop their willingness to learn quickly and solve problems,” he said.
The CEO of FitChild also confirmed that the program is being implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board to ensure effective implementation in public primary schools.
He explained that participating students would receive periodic evaluations through a 10-day report card system intended to monitor their progress and continuous improvement.
During the event, school sports officials participated in some demonstration sessions of obstacle tunnel bicycle exercise and target throw bicycle exercise.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of AGIC Limited, Dr. Senukon Ajose Harrison, commended the organizers for introducing sports education initiatives aimed at child development in Lagos State.
Harrison highlighted the importance of combining physical, mental and emotional learning in children’s development and urged students to maximize the opportunities provided by the program.
“For Nigeria to develop, especially Lagos State, we need all degrees of learning, including psychomotor and affective learning, which are areas that sports education supports,” he said.
He encouraged stakeholders to take the lead in promoting sports education and mental development among children, describing the initiative as an important step towards improving educational and social outcomes in the state.
