UCL: Madrid beat Inter and Manchester City beat Porto away

Real Madrid began this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 home win against Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde scored for Madrid, while Carlos Augusto scored the goal for Inter.

Mbappé opened the scoring in the 14th minute with an assist from Moroccan international Brahim Díaz before Valverde doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Josep Martínez.

However, Augusto scored for Inter in the 77th minute, assisted by Lautaro Martínez, to make Madrid nervous at the end.

At the Estadio do Dragao in Portugal, a double from Erling Haaland allowed Manchester City to defeat FC Porto 2-0.

Haaland opened the scoring with a header in the 47th minute after an assist from summer signing Enzo Fernández, before adding the second goal in the 91st minute after a corner kick.

In other matches, Borussia Dortmund beat Villarreal 3-2 and Real Betis defeated Lille 3-2 in France.

Earlier on Tuesday, Aston Villa recorded a 3-2 win against Club Brugge and ARK Athens beat visiting LASK 1-0.
