Hayatu-Deen challenges Atiku, Amaechi on ADC’s ethical commitments

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, to publicly commit to the party’s principles of governance and code of conduct, known as the Orange Book.

The duo is also vying for the ADC presidential ticket in the 2027 elections.

Hayatu-Deen, in a post shared on his social media on Friday, described the Orange Book as an important ethical framework in contemporary Nigerian politics.

The presidential candidate said that the main highlight of this party screening activity was the distribution of Orange Books to presidential candidates.

He said all presidential and gubernatorial candidates are required to study the document and affirm commitment to its guiding principles before formally participating in the process.

Hayatu-Deen said the document represents a binding agreement that rejects self-serving politics, and at the same time places service to the Nigerian people at the center of leadership and public office.

“The Orange Book is not a slogan, which states that public office is not for personal enrichment, personal glory, or political rights, but for service,” he said.

According to him, presidential candidates who want to obtain a mandate from the party must adhere to integrity, accountability, transparency, achievement and discipline, and completely reject corruption, vote buying and godfatherism.

He revealed that there were two provisions that he really liked, including leadership being measured through long-term, community-centered impact and recognition of leaders only as civil servants.

“This is not an ordinary political declaration. This is a standard that every leader, regardless of political affiliation, must uphold for the benefit of the Nigerian people,” he added.
