The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned the party chairman in Enugu State, John Paul Anih who was recently elected to the position.
The NDC has chosen Anih, a former aide to former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as its state governor after he reportedly won at the party’s State Congress held on May 4, 2026 in Enugu. Anih is said to have achieved a landslide victory after the party reached a consensus decision.
But the party in a statement on Sunday evening by Director Osa, its National Publicity Secretary, described him as “a fraud, not representing the NDC, and in no way the Enugu State Chairman of the NDC”.
The statement read “The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the entire leadership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has been drawn to the nefarious activities of John Paul Anih who claims to be the Enugu State Chairman of the NDC, there in the guise of the authentic and legally recognized Chairman of Enugu State, as Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta.
“Apart from impersonating our state Chairman, said Mr John Paul Anih, we are aware of also holding a Kangaroo state Congress where he allegedly appointed himself as state chairman. He has also applied to the court in Enugu, seeking to force the NDC to recognize him as our state Chairman for Enugu State.

“Mr John Paul Anih did not stop there. Even though the case has not yet gone to trial, he continues to forge and reproduce copies of the NDC Statement of Interest Form which he sells to unsuspecting prospective buyers.
The NDC hereby warns unsuspecting members of the public that Mr John Paul Anih does not represent the NDC in any category, and anyone transacting any business with him on behalf of the NDC, does so at their own risk.
“Earlier today, we learned that John Paul Anih had also seized the opportunity of his party’s ongoing candidate screening and set up what he called a candidate screening Committee for Enugu State, which he used to further defraud and blackmail some gullible politicians.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the national leadership of the NDC has constituted a screening committee to screen candidates for state assembly in the 36 states of the Federation. The three-man team for Enugu State consists of the following:
1. Honey. Sylvester O. Nwankwo – Chairman
2. barrier. Ifeanyi Emmanuel Agbom- Secretary
3. Ngene Helen Funmilola – Member
“Anyone other than the above, who claims to be a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly candidates Screening Committee is a fraud and should be treated as such.”
