Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter has expressed his disappointment after his team was held to a 1-1 draw by Barau FC in the matchday 6 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Saturday.
Barau FC took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Joseph Atule converted a penalty after Stanley Oganbor was fouled inside the area.
Sporting Lagos responded strongly after the break, with Sodiq Ayoade restoring equality for the hosts.
Although both teams created chances, neither could find the winning goal in the final 30 minutes as the points were split.
With this result, Barau FC maintains first place in the standings and extends its unbeaten streak.
Buter unhappy with Barau FC’s draw
Buter believes Sporting Lagos deserved more from the close match.

“Yes, disappointing, as you said. I think we deserved more than a draw. We should have won this game,” Buter told the club’s media.
“I think another day the refereeing will be better, I think we will get the maximum points in this game. I am happy with the fight and courage.”
Don’t convert opportunities
Buter also lamented his team’s inability to take advantage of their opportunities.
“Fatigue is part of the game. I think we created chances, but we didn’t score early enough and the opponent took advantage of what they had,” Buter said.
“But again, the fight and the resilience to achieve something, you’re going to need it in another game.
“We wanted to start strong like we did against Inter Lagos. We just have to keep fighting.”
