A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will hold a “Special National Convention” to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as the presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The program is being held on Saturday at the ‘A’ Class Event Centre, Kassim Ibrahim Way, Wuse 2, Abuja, starting at 10 am.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, stated this in an invitation to the event presented to journalists on Thursday.
The invitation described the meeting as a “Special National Convention for the Ratification of the Nomination of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR as Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the document said.
Saturday’s convention follows a series of moves by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction to position Jonathan as its flag bearer.

The faction’s screening committee, on May 19, granted Jonathan an exemption and declared him the only presidential candidate.
Former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, who chaired the screening committee, said his party decided to grant the exemption based on Jonathan’s political record which includes lieutenant governor, governor, vice president and president.
The faction then held presidential primaries on Wednesday, May 28, ahead of ratification exercises on Saturday.
The Federal High Court in Abuja also declared Jonathan eligible to participate in the 2027 presidential election on Tuesday, a decision that received positive reactions from the Turaki-led faction.
Jonathan previously told a group of supporters urging him to run in 2027 that he was still consulting, saying the presidential election was not a computer game.
Until this report was made, Jonathan had not made a public statement accepting the nomination or confirming his intention to take part in the 2027 presidential election.
