Terrorists invade Kogi residence, kidnap woman, baby and three others – THIS UPDATE

Terrorists invaded a residence in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of ​​Kogi State, and abducted a woman, her baby and three other members of a family in an attack on Wednesday.

Troops of the 12th Brigade of the Nigerian Army under the 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army, however, rescued two of the casualties following a rapid response operation launched after the incident.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 12th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the attack occurred near Solid Rock School in Ijalu area of ​​Egbe on June 3, 2026.

Among the abducted victims were Mrs. Adekemi Idowu, her six-month-old baby and three other family members.

The army said the troops immediately mobilized after receiving a distress signal and, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), launched a hot pursuit operation along the retreat route of the terrorists.

The statement said sustained pressure exerted by the combined security team forced the terrorists to abandon Mrs. Idowu and her baby near Oro axis before fleeing to the surrounding area.

“The rescued victims were safely returned to their residences, while troops continued aggressive search operations aimed at rescuing the remaining victims and apprehending the perpetrators,” the statement said.

The military added that operations were underway to secure the release of the remaining kidnapped victims and track down those responsible.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information in support of security operations.

Kogi State and parts of Nigeria’s north-central region continued to record incidents of abductions and attacks by armed groups, requiring increased security operations in affected communities.
