Former senator representing Ogun Central, Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) citing lack of respect from the party.
Obasanjo stated this in his statement on Monday in Abeokuta.
He said the decision was taken after extensive consultations and careful reflection on developments within the party.
The former lawmaker said he joined the APC in good faith and sought to strengthen grassroots support across his senatorial district and other parts of the state.
Obasanjo said he remains committed to internal democracy, justice and mutual respect throughout his aspirations to become governor.
He said he accepted the party’s consensus agreement in the interest of unity and then established a constructive relationship with the selected candidates.
However, the contributions, sacrifices and aspirations of my supporters do not receive adequate attention.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultation, I have officially communicated my decision to resign from membership of the APC.
“As I stated in my letter to the party leadership, if disrespect is the only dish served, then one must leave the table,” said the former lawmaker.
Obasanjo thanked President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders for the assistance given to him during his time as a member.
He reiterated his commitment to service, justice and continued development of Ogun State and Nigeria.
