Great fire

On Thursday, the UN peacekeeping mission tasked with monitoring the dividing line between Israel and southern Lebanon, UNIFILEreported “intensive air activity,” involving fighter aircraft and various unmanned aerial systems.

This included 72 violations of Lebanese airspace and a total of eight airstrikes by Israeli warplanes in UNIFIL’s area of operations.

Repair roads and bridges

Despite a significant increase in violence over the past three months, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon, UNIFIL, remains deployed in all positions in southern Lebanon and continues to carry out its mission mandated tasks.

In the last few weeks, Peacekeeping forces have worked in close coordination with the national army and local governments to restore access, repair roads and bridges in their areas of operation., according to UNIFIL’s statement.

These tasks are critical – ensuring the mobility of peacekeeping forces and enabling humanitarian access in a region characterized by daily firefights, ground fighting, airstrikes, destruction and displacement.

Several roads have been repaired and roadblocks cleared in the Shama, Ramyah, Marwahin, Ayta as-Sha’b, Marjayoun, Kfar Kila and Houla areas.

Meanwhile, in locations where there are large craters or threats that make repairs impossible, peacekeepers are building bypass routes to restore access.

Chinese peacekeepers at the Mission repaired an important bridge near Al Bayyadah, which was badly damaged during hostilities.
