FIFA World Cup 2026: Scotland top Group C after victory as Brazil and Morocco share points

Scotland moved to the top of Group C of the FIFA World Cup after winning 1-0 over Haiti, following earlier 1-1 draws with Brazil and Morocco.

The Scots secured all three points in the opening match at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with John McGinn scoring the decisive goal in the first half.

McGinn scored in the 28th minute after Haitian goalkeeper Johny Placide saved Che Adams’ shot, allowing the Scottish midfielder to react quicker and finish.

The victory ended Scotland’s long wait for a World Cup victory, marking their first success at the tournament since 1990.

Haiti pushed for an equalizer after falling behind and created several late opportunities, but the Scottish defense remained strong to protect the narrow lead.

Earlier in Group C, Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Morocco produced an excellent performance against the five-time world champions and took the lead through Ismael Saibari in the 21st minute.

Brazil responded with Vinícius Júnior, who equalized in the 32nd minute to give the South Americans a point.

The second half saw both teams seeking victory, but Morocco’s disciplined defense prevented Brazil from completing the comeback.

The results left Scotland top of Group C with three points, while Brazil and Morocco follow with one point each.

Haiti remained without a point after the opening round.

The group remains balanced, with Scotland facing Morocco next time, while Brazil will look to recover against Haiti in the second match.
