“I’m the boss,” Trump told world leaders at the G7 meeting

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday told global leaders that “I’m the boss”, as he and other G7 leaders pledged support for Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia.

Although the G7 summit of major powers in France is chaired by President Emmanuel Macron, his guests have left no doubt who he believes is the leader.

Trump made the comments as he entered the morning session of the final day of the three-day G7 summit, with other leaders already taking their seats.

Amid laughter, Macron seemed to respond to the comment with good humor. “How are you?” asked the French president.

“Good, thank you,” responded Trump, a tycoon before president who famously hosted the TV show “The Apprentice” with the catchphrase “You’re fired!”, as he finally took his seat.

Fresh from reaching a deal to end the war with Iran and celebrating his 80th birthday, Trump’s presence has dominated the summit in the spa town of Evian on Lake Geneva.

The US President was present during the event and signed the G7 communiqué – in contrast to previous meetings in Canada, where he left early.

In an unusual gesture, Macron invited Trump to dinner at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris after the summit ended on Wednesday afternoon.
