The IGP appointed a new police spokesperson, replacing Tenang after a short tenure

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer, ending DCP Anthony Okon Placid’s three-month tenure as spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force.

The appointment was announced Friday in a statement released by Placid, which described his replacement as a highly experienced police officer with a strong background in public communications, intelligence operations, administration, accountability and policing.

Iniedu, who hails from Etinan Local Government Area of ​​Akwa Ibom State, is a graduate of Fine Chemistry from the University of Uyo, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree.

Highlighting his professional credentials, the statement noted that the newly appointed spokesperson had undergone specialized training in several key areas of policing and communications.

“He has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communications, and intelligence analysis.

“Prior to his appointment, he served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated the management of public complaints and championed initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and public trust in the Nigerian Police.

“He also previously served as Public Relations Officer at the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, among several operational and administrative appointments across the country.”

Prior to his appointment to the Force Public Relations Department, Iniedu held a number of strategic operational and administrative positions within the police hierarchy. They include the Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, the Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, the Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, the Second Commander of the 50 Police Mobile Squadron in Kubwa, and the Officer in Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.

In his most recent role, he was responsible for overseeing the coordination and dissemination of security and crime-related information across the country.

According to the statement, the Inspector General expressed confidence that Iniedu has the necessary expertise to strengthen the Police’s public communications strategy and deepen engagement with citizens as part of broader police reform.

The appointment marks another leadership change in the Force’s Public Relations Department. Iniedu replaced Placid, who assumed the role on March 8, 2026, following the exit of Benjamin Hundeyin.
