Actor, Chinedu Ikedieze, laments the $30 fee to watch a football match at a US ‘viewing centre’

Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, has narrated how he and other football fans had to pay $30 (About N40,000) at fan viewing areas in the US to watch matches in the ongoing FIFA World Cup competition.

Ikedieze in a video he shared on his Facebook page at a fan viewing venue in Dallas, United States on Thursday expressed his surprise at attending a fan festival for Wednesday’s World Cup Group K match between Congo and Portugal.

In the video, Ikedieze expressed his shock at the $30 fee charged to fans watching the match on a giant screen.

“The people who come to watch the game, it’s not inside the stadium. It’s just outside, this is where they put the big screen. Do you know what they charge us? $30, that’s about 40,000,” he said.

Comparing the setting to viewing centers in Nigeria, Ikedieze said the atmosphere still gave fans the feeling of being at the game.

“We are heading to a fan festival in Dallas. This is where we can watch the game. And it still feels like we are in the stadium. Like a viewing center in Nigeria,” he said.

The actor also pointed out the large number of security guards and parking fees at the venue, and was even more shocked by the costs involved.

“The police are everywhere. It’s $30 to park a car here, man. It’s $30 to come and watch the game. This is America,” he said.

Ikedieze’s comments came as DR Congo secured a 1-1 draw against tournament favorites Portugal in their opening Group K match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.
