INEC is close to uploading full results as Over 2,000 polling units appear on IReV

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made significant progress in the electronic transmission of the results of Saturday’s Ekiti State gubernatorial election, with more than four-fifths of the voting results already available on the Result Viewing (IReV) online portal.

As of 6:41 p.m., election data on the platform showed that 2,048 polling station results had been uploaded from 2,445 polling stations in the state, representing about 83.7 percent of the estimated total uploads.

The development marked a rapid increase in results transmission activity, coming just minutes after the commission recorded much lower upload levels the previous night. As of 6:12 p.m., only 35.5 percent of the results appeared on the portal.

A steady stream of posts occurred as data collection continued across local government areas, with election officials working to reconcile and combine results from voting units across the state.

The off-cycle gubernatorial election is being closely watched as incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji seeks a fresh mandate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the end of his first term in office in October.

A total of 14 candidates participated in the contest, reflecting the diverse political parties vying for control of Ekiti Government House.

Among the main contenders challenging the incumbent are Oluwole Oluyede of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labor Party (LP), and Blessing Abegunde of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

Other candidates contesting the election are Samuel Akande of the African Action Congress (AAC), Ayodeji Ojo of the Democratic Action Party (ADP), Opeyemi Felegan of Accord, Joseph Anifowose of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Bidemi Awogbemi of the People’s Action Party (APP), Olaniyi Ayodele of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), and Victor Adetunji of the Zenith Labor Party (ZLP).

With thousands of polling station results already accessible to the public via the IReV portal, attention is gradually turning to official voting centers where final vote totals will be tallied and a winner will be determined.

INEC officials are expected to continue posting the extraordinary results as examinations progress across the state.
