Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, is at the Lagos Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Directorate 1 office located at Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
A source in the anti-corruption agency revealed that Okowa’s visit may have something to do with the ongoing investigation into allegations of abuse of office and financial irregularities linked to his administration.
The former governor has been under investigation by the EFCC since leaving office over alleged diversion of about N1.3 trillion of 13 per cent derivation funds allocated to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023.
Okowa was initially arrested on November 4, 2024, and later questioned at the commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.
According to the source, the former governor visited the Lagos office in a bid to get his international passport released so he can travel abroad for so-called urgent medical treatment.
However, it was unclear at the time this report was filed whether the commission would approve the request and return the travel documents.
Efforts to get an official response from the EFCC spokesperson, Mr Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful, as calls made to his telephone line went unanswered.
