Basey accuses Eket APC neighborhood leaders of committing themselves to the party

AS Political activities gain momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, leaders of political districts under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Eket, Akwa Ibon State have started meeting and identifying with key stakeholders for formidable preparation.

In the recent meeting on Thursday, June 25, chairmen of the Eket District APC Presidents’ Forum visited the state Sports Commissioner, Elder Paul Bassey, in his office.

In what they described as a “familiarization visit”, led by the Chairman of the Eket chapter of the APC, Hon Inyang Jonny Ebuk, the forum thanked the Sports Commissioner for his sensitivity and cooperation in carrying out the part in Eket and appreciated Governor Umo Eno for the appointment of Elder Bassey into his cabinet.

They looked back with particular fondness on the springboard that Eket’s party took from Elder Bassey during his chapter, the ward convention and the recently concluded party primaries, the ward leaders vowed to reciprocate the gesture with sheer support for Governor Eno’s administration beyond 2027.

In his response, Elder Bassey, happy with the visit, thanked the team for the sense of unity. According to him, the spirit stems from Governor Eno’s foresight to unite the state at the centre, describing it as a formidable vision and clairvoyance that has brought blessings and development to the state, especially as the APC will face the elections without any burden behind its structure.

Lauding the party leaders for working to ensure smooth primaries in all constituencies, the commissioner, however, charged them to work harder.

He reiterated how dear the oil-rich local government is to Governor Eno to inform the numerous benefits he is getting from his government, including the State Sports Academy, which Elder Bassey described as one of the legacy projects of the state, with a multiplier effect of job opportunities and prestige for the people of Eket in particular and the state in general.

Also mentioning the 4.8 kilometer road project commissioned on Wednesday and the additional 12 kilometers of road promised to the people of Eket, the commissioner justified the place of serious reciprocity by stating

‘…that’s why those of us who have responsibilities in any capacity, especially as constituency chairmen, have to work very hard to uphold the primary post that Eket has because the governor doesn’t mess with Eket at all. So let’s work hard and keep working.’

Giving a clue to what he described as “present and hands-on” evidence of work by party officials, the elder Bassey tasked them with bridging gaps with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the continuous voter registration exercise in the area reaches its peak.

This particular accusation has strengthened the loyalty of the people of Eket to governor Umo Eno, as reflected in the words of the Commissioner: “…it is not enough that the governor and the other candidates win. We know they will win with certainty. But in Eket the votes must be massive.”

He called on party members to remain focused while carrying out their duties.
