The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a ban on commercial motorbikes and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
The restrictions, which came into effect this week, were announced in a statement on Sunday by the Federal Inspector of Works in Lagos State, Mr Olufemi Dare.
Dare said the decision was taken to protect the newly built superhighway from abuse and damage.
He explained that such measures were necessary to preserve the road and ensure long-term sustainability.
Federal inspectors also warned that haphazard parking of trucks and articulated vehicles is no longer allowed.
According to him, the restrictions apply to coastal highways and all bridges crossing Lagos State.
The ministry further banned littering along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable.
Dare warned that violators would face strict enforcement action as authorities sought to maintain order.
He revealed that signs indicating restrictions had been installed along the highway.
Dare added that task force officials would be deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance.
He described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as “world-class infrastructure” that requires proper maintenance and protection.
The official urged all road users to comply with the directive in the interest of public safety.
He stressed that preserving the facility would increase its lifespan and maintain its value to the Nigerian people.
