David Hall College Aims for National Milo Basketball Title

David Hall International College of Lagos is aiming for its first national basketball title as the school prepares for the latest edition of the Milo National Basketball Championship scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Head coach Adekunle Samuel believes his team has learned valuable lessons from previous appearances and is ready to challenge for the crown.

Speaking before the competition, Samuel reflected on the school’s journey to the national finals, where he has guided teams on three separate occasions.

“This is my third time coaching at the National Finals,” he said.

The coach recalled that his first appearance finished in third place and said his women’s team made a breakthrough by securing third place, while his men’s team finished fifth in last year’s championship in their first national appearance.

The constant increase in performance has boosted confidence within the field.

“We are here to correct all our mistakes from last year. Although we are not perfect, we are here to push for perfection and make sure we do our best to lift the title,” he said.

Asked about his expectations for this year’s tournament, the coach left no room for doubt.

“Definitely, just to win and go home,” he declared.

The players share the same ambition.

Team member Sunday Victor expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete against any opponent in the championship.

“I trust my teammates a lot: our point guard, guard and forwards. We are competent.”

“We don’t care who we face. We just want to be in good condition and play our game,” he said.

Victor believes the team’s improved balance and attacking options will help them improve on last year’s fifth-place finish.

“Now we have more offensive players. Three-point shooting, offense, physical play, driving to the basket… it’s all there. I’m sure we can go all the way,” he added.

Beyond competition, the young basketball player sees sport as a platform for personal growth and global opportunities.

“Basketball takes me all over the world. It connects me to the world,” Victor said. “I want to show my talent and send a message to the world that I am here.”

The SS1 Science student, who plays as a shooting guard and small forward, also expressed his gratitude to the sponsors of the championship.

“Thank you Milo for the 26 years you have been sponsoring this competition. I appreciate you very much,” he said.
