No one can hijack ADC facility in Kaduna – Party Official

The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna state has denounced attempts by some members of the party’s coalition to hijack its structure, insisting that only the legally constituted executive be recognised.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, the Chairman of ADC Legacy in the state, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, said the party’s original leadership would oppose any move to undermine the party’s constitution and internal democratic processes.

Mustapha said the coalition in Kaduna was launched in March 2025 under the leadership of Dr. Salihu Lukman to bring together various political interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, a coalition committee comprising representatives of both the coalition and legacy members has been constituted to ensure inclusiveness and smooth integration into the party.

He, however, claimed that some coalition leaders later abandoned the agreed process and attempted to take control of the party structure.

“Some leaders and members of the coalition, for reasons best known to them, have decided to hijack the party structure under the watchful eyes of Legacy Members,” he said.

Mustapha added that hereditary members will not allow any action that undermines “the constitution, structure and sacrifices of the original members who built the party since its inception in 2006.”

“We remain committed to due process, internal democracy and the ideals for which the ADC was founded. Any actions that seek to set aside or ignore the Legacy structure of the ADC will be vigorously resisted through legal and constitutional means,” he said.

He called on party members and the public to ignore any statement that does not come from what he described as the duly recognized ADC leadership in Kaduna State.

The ADC Chairman further maintained that the current leadership of the party remained valid after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 30, 2026, which approved a 12-month extension of the mandate of the National Working Committee and corresponding extensions for state, local and district executives pending any new directive from the national leadership.

According to him, the extension also reaffirmed the legitimacy of Kaduna State leaders until an interim committee is constituted by the National Executive Committee of the party.

Mustapha urged all factions within the party to embrace unity rather than engage in leadership disputes, saying the ADC remained large enough to accommodate all genuine members.

He also reaffirmed the Kaduna chapter’s loyalty to the party’s national leadership and the coalition process coordinated by Dr. Salihu Lukman, expressing confidence that unity will position the party for a successful exit in the 2027 general elections.

ADC members also praised the party’s national chairman, Senator David Bonaventure Mark, for what they described as his commitment to protecting the interests of long-serving party members while promoting unity within the party.
