The South East Basketball Association (SEBA) has rejected claims made by Oni Garantor in a video claiming that there were no medical staff available during the Enugu phase of the Nigeria Basketball Premier League (NBPL), describing the claim as inaccurate.
In a statement made available to the media by the association’s media officer, Comrade Kennedy Onwunali, SEBA said it would not normally respond to such remarks but was forced to clarify the situation and set the record straight.
The association said that contrary to claims, four medical staff members were on the ground during the Enugu phase of the NBPL and were available to provide medical support during the games.
SEBA maintained that basketball in the South East has continued to grow thanks to the dedication and commitment of stakeholders, adding that attempts to create a negative impression on the development of the sport would not distract from the progress recorded.
The association urged those interested in basketball politics in the region to focus on hard work, positive contributions and building the game, allowing their achievements to gain recognition.
Basketball in the Southeast is here to stay. Those who are interested in gaming politics should go out and work so that they are recognized for their contributions,” the association said.
SEBA highlighted the importance of supporting competitions that can stand the test of time and have a positive impact on the lives of young athletes across the region.
The association also called on media practitioners and interested parties to always verify information before publication and to report based on facts.
Report what you see and verify your information. Do not create stories that are not supported by facts,” the statement adds.
