Nigerian team begins final preparations in Aberdeen
Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Head of Mission of the Nigerian Team to the Commonwealth Games 2026Bukola Olopade, was present to welcome the Nigerian team athletes and officials at the pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland.
The team will camp for 20 days before moving to the Games Village in Glasgow for the Games themselves.
Olopade, who inspected the facilities and accommodation, welcomed members of the Nigerian contingent as they arrived, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to providing the best possible environment for athletes to excel on the international stage.

“We are here because preparation is everything. Our athletes deserve the best environment to train, recover and compete, and that is exactly what we have given them in Aberdeen,” said Olopade.
“We want every member of the Nigerian team to stay focused because the nation believes in them and we are sure they will make Nigeria proud in Glasgow.

“Our responsibility is to eliminate any avoidable distractions and allow our athletes and coaches to fully concentrate on performance. We have planned meticulously and I am pleased with what I have seen since arriving at camp. The atmosphere is excellent, the facilities are first class and the athletes are in great spirits.”
Team Nigeria welcomes first group of athletes to camp
As of Friday night, 54 athletes from the Nigerian team had arrived at the Aberdeen camp, with more athletes and officials expected to join the contingent over the weekend.

Among those who arrived on Friday, welcomed by the Director General, were team captain and multiple Paralympic gold medalist Folashade Oluwafemiayo, Favor Ashe, Patience George-Okon, among others.
Aberdeen Camp offers ideal preparation for Glasgow 2026
The serene, high-performance training environment in Aberdeen has been carefully selected to provide the Nigerian team with ideal conditions for acclimatization, technical preparation and recovery before the athletes travel to Glasgow to compete.
The contingent will spend about three weeks in camp fine-tuning preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
