A leader of the All Progressives Congress, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has said the federal government’s ongoing reforms of the National Youth Service Corps will strengthen youth empowerment, spur human capital development and accelerate Nigeria’s drive towards achieving a trillion-dollar economy.
Oyintiloye, a former member of the Osun State Assembly, described the reforms as a strategic shift from the traditional national service model to a skills-based program designed to equip graduates with practical skills for the modern job market.
He said the initiative is in line with the Federal Government’s economic agenda by preparing Nigerian youths with industry-relevant skills that can drive productivity, entrepreneurship and job creation.
According to him, the restructured NYSC program will enable corps members to acquire specialized knowledge tailored to their academic background, while significantly contributing to national development.
“The reforms are a bold step towards repositioning NYSC as a platform for youth empowerment and national development. By strengthening the capacities of graduates and equipping them with relevant skills, the initiative will support the federal government’s vision of building a trillion-dollar economy,” he said.
Oyintiloye explained that under the new framework, corps members will be required to choose between specialized service streams after registration.
The streams include Agricultural Corps, Medical Corps, Education Corps, Technology and Digital Corps, Legal Corps, Public Service Corps, Infrastructure Corps, Green Corps, Corporate Corps, Creative Economy Corps, as well as Paramilitary and Security Corps.
He noted that participants would undergo specialized training during the orientation camp to prepare them for assignments in line with their chosen fields.
The APC supporter said the initiative will improve the employability of graduates, promote innovation and improve service delivery across all critical sectors of the economy.
He added that the reforms would also help reduce youth unemployment by prioritizing skills acquisition and creating pathways to productive engagement after one-year national service.
Oyintiloye commended the Federal Government for introducing the reforms, expressing confidence that the new structure will transform the NYSC into a more impactful institution capable of producing a skilled workforce to support Nigeria’s long-term economic growth.
