The Senior Vice President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), President of CAA Region 2 and President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has congratulated the junior athletes of the Nigerian team for their outstanding performances at the just concluded CAA Region 2 U-18/U-20 Athletics Championships in Dakar, Senegal.
Chief Okowa commended the athletes for their determination, discipline and resilience, describing their performances as a clear indication of the bright future of athletics in Nigeria.
Team Nigeria concluded the championship with an impressive haul of 23 medals, including 15 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze, finishing as one of the top nations in the competition.
The AFN President praised the coaches, technical officials and support staff for their dedication and commitment to the team’s success, stressing that the results achieved in Dakar are the result of hard work, proper planning and teamwork.
He urged the young athletes to remain focused, continue to work hard and strive for greater achievements as they prepare to represent Nigeria on bigger international stages.
Chief Okowa also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, National Sports Commission and all stakeholders for their continuous support to the development of athletics in the country, reaffirming the commitment of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria to nurturing young talents capable of winning laurels for the nation.
