Ashleigh Plumptre has expressed her disappointment after being left out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Coach Justine Madugu unveiled his 25-player squad for the tournament on Friday, with Plumptre among the notable absences.
The versatile defender has been sidelined since March after suffering a foot injury while playing for Saudi club Al-Ittihad Ladies.
Although she is still recovering from the injury, the 28-year-old took to social media to express her disappointment at missing out on the tournament and pledged her full support for the Super Falcons in Morocco.

“The body asks for more time and I listen to it ❤️🩹
It is sad to miss this WAFCON but I am hopeful at the prospect of fighting alongside these women again with the support of Nigerians everywhere when the body is ready to compete again,” Plumptre wrote in X.
“So in the meantime, back these women, support them in their quest for victory once again. Be careful with them, they need you 💚
I’m with you ladies 🫶🏽
Naija does not carry the last 🫀”.
The former Leicester City defender made her WAFCON debut at the 2022 tournament in Morocco, where she established herself as a key member of the Super Falcons.
Plumptre also played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s successful WAFCON 2024 campaign, helping the team to a record-extending 10th continental title.
