The Nigerian Army has buried Lieutenant Felix Ademe Isaac, a 28-year-old Nigerian Army officer, who lost his life on a mission to rescue kidnapped school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He was killed by a land mine while leading the initial breach to rescue the survivors.
Lieutenant Isaac was at the forefront of operations in Old Oyo National Park, firing the first shots. His convoy was hit by an IED planted by terrorists.
“We will never forget,” said his comrades as he was finally buried, with full military honors at the 23rd Amoured Brigade Cemetery, Yola, Adamawa State.
The rescue operation, which resulted in the safe return of kidnapped students and teachers in Oyo State after spending 56 days in captivity, continues to generate many reactions.
Ripples Nigeria reports that the students and their teacher were released on Friday, July 10, ending the standoff that began when terrorists captured the victims.
Security operatives from over 10 agencies joined in a month-long intelligence-led operation that secured the release of 44 students and teachers abducted by terrorists from Oriire LGA in Oyo State.
The operation was led by Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army.
On May 15, gunmen attacked the Baptist Kindergarten and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all in Oriire LGA.
The incident prompted the Oyo State government to close schools in four LGAs as security agencies stepped up rescue efforts.
