Bursaspor deal: Iheanacho felt disrespected by Celtic contract extension offer

Nigerian international striker Kelechi Iheanacho surprised many when he decided to join Turkish second division side Bursaspor as a free agent, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Iheanacho’s one-year contract with Scottish side Celtic expired at the end of the season, leaving him available to other teams. Celtic took the lead by making it clear that they want to extend his contract and offered him a new two-year deal.

However, the offer was said to be for a reduced salary, which is almost half of what he earned in his first year at the club, while the 30-year-old was asking for a pay rise.

Bursaspor, who have been interested in him for some time, were aware of their dissatisfaction with Celtic’s offer. One source described it as a disrespectful offer.

Informal conversations were held with his representative, who disregarded his salary demand, and was stunned when the Turkish team agreed to pay and had no choice but to inform the player that he accepted the transfer.
