Monrovia, Liberia, August 7, 2026 – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has warned that his administration will take firm action against individuals involved regardless of status or influence
He declared that the proliferation of illegal drugs, organized crime, corruption, and other criminal activities constitutes a direct threat to Liberia’s future.
President Boakai said the growing challenges are not merely law enforcement concerns but attacks that threaten young people, weaken state institutions, undermine legitimate businesses, compromise national security, and risk damaging Liberia’s international reputation.
The Liberian leader made the remarks Thursday, August 6, 2026, during the commissioning ceremony of judges and court marshals in Monrovia. The ceremony brought together members of the Judiciary, Legislature, diplomatic corps, Youth Advisory Council, and the media.
According to President Boakai, his administration has taken deliberate and intentional actions to confront criminal activities, particularly narcotics trafficking, while strengthening the country’s justice system.
He said recent arrests, dismissals, suspensions, and investigations involving individuals linked to narcotics trafficking and other crimes are not isolated incidents or politically motivated actions.
“Nor are they intended to create headlines. They represent a determined national effort to defend the Liberian people, protect our institutions, dismantle criminal cartels, and restore confidence in the rule of law,” President Boakai said.
Issuing a strong warning to drug traffickers and individuals who believe they are beyond the reach of justice, the President said his government will pursue anyone involved in criminal activities.
President Boakai stressed that no individual or group will be protected because of political connections, public office, business interests, family ties, or social status.
“We will identify you! We will pursue you! We will find you! And we will deal with you in accordance with the law. There will be no sacred cows in this Joseph Nyuma Boakai Administration,” he declared.
He added that whether a person is a government official, law enforcement officer, businessperson, customs broker, or ordinary citizen, the law must apply equally.
However, President Boakai acknowledged that government alone cannot win the fight against crime, noting that law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and the judiciary must work together to ensure justice is served.
The President also praised members of the Joint Security for their commitment and sacrifices in protecting the nation, particularly amid recent efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking and other criminal enterprises.
He commended security officers for working under difficult conditions while facing pressure, intimidation, and personal risks.
He assured members of the security forces that their sacrifices and dedication are recognized, adding that his administration remains committed to supporting them as they continue their national duty.
