Adeleke has abandoned the Accord Party’s national council candidate, the faction alleges

A bitter crisis has erupted within the Osun State chapter of the Accord Party following the appointment of Governor Ademola Adeleke as State Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

In a sharp statement issued in Osogbo on Wednesday, the leader of the Accord Party faction, Yusuf Adegboye, launched a scathing attack on Governor Adeleke, accusing him of systemic political sabotage and questioning the moral and tactical nature of leading a rival party’s campaign while his own party is fielding candidates on the same polls.

Adegboye argued that Governor Adeleke’s acceptance of a top campaign role in the ruling APC was the final confirmation that the governor joined the Accord Party solely to dismantle the party from within—a strategy he alleged Adeleke had previously employed against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This questionable appointment fully validates our long-standing warning to party supporters: Governor Adeleke did not join the Accord Party to build it, but acted as a Trojan horse and destroyed it from within, exactly as he did during his tenure in the PDP,” Adegboye said.

“How can a sitting governor, elected on the platform of the Accord Party, openly accept to coordinate the presidential campaign for the APC – a rival political party – when our own party has its own presidential banner and a legislative candidate running in the same election on the same day?”

The crux of the dispute centers on the dual role that Governor Adeleke must play in his campaign. With the national legislative elections (Senate and House of Representatives) held simultaneously with the presidential election, Adegboye showed what strange political gymnastics a governor has to perform.

“Imagine the absurdity of a campaign trail,” Adegboye challenged. “How does the Governor appear on the public stage with the APC Senatorial and House of Representatives candidates, urge the people to vote for the APC presidential candidate, and then, at the same time, ask the same audience to turn around and vote against the APC legislative candidate in favor of the Accord Party candidate?”

“Is it not entirely safe to conclude that the Governor has tacitly handed over all the Osun National Assembly seats to the APC? By campaigning on the APC platform for the presidential ticket, he has effectively abandoned the Accord Party candidate and handed victory to the opposition.”

Governor Adeleke’s appointment to the APC Presidential Campaign Council reflects an unprecedented cross-party alignment, framed by his supporters as a strategic alliance to secure federal support for development projects in Osun State. However, within the Accord Party, the move has exposed deep ideological divisions and sparked accusations of treason.

As opposition mounts within Adegboye’s faction, grassroots party members are demanding immediate clarification on whether the Accord Party intends to maintain its independent identity or fully incorporate its structures into the APC campaign machine.
