Police blow up baby factory in Ogun

Officials of the Ogun State Police Command have uncovered what they say is a ‘baby factory’ syndicate in Abaren Village, Mowe area of ​​the state.

The operation resulted in the rescue of two heavily pregnant women and four children, as well as the arrest of six suspects: Florence Ogbona ‘f’ (58), Magdalene Julius ‘f’ (63), Chidike Egwuonwu ‘m’ (40), Onyechu Chidike ‘m’ (35), Stephen Ogbona ‘m’ (39), and a duty nurse, Oseni Idaya ‘f’.

The command described the arrest of members of this syndicate as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against human trafficking and child exploitation.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement to journalists on Tuesday.

Babaseyi said, “The operation was carried out on August 24, 2026, at approximately 8:00 am, when officers acting on ongoing intelligence raided the syndicate hideout located on Toluwalase Road, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, when initial investigations revealed that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had been taking place at the facility from time to time.

“During the raid, officers managed to rescue two pregnant victims: Ilesanmi Foluke ‘f’ (23), seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody ‘f’ (20), eight months pregnant. Four small children, consisting of two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the scene.”

He explained that a follow-up intelligence-led operation took command officers to a hospital in Mowe axis, where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong ‘f’ (26), had given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026.

Babaseyi said that while the mother was receiving medical treatment, the whereabouts of the newborn could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the nurse who looked after her in an attempt to find the baby.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn, and ensure prosecution of any guilty suspects.

Babaseyi promised that the public would be kept informed as developments continue.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operational efficiency and quick response of Mowe Division officers to the reported illegal act of operating a baby factory.

The CP further urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue to support the police by providing timely and credible information, assuring them that the command will maintain intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens.
