Martinez pushes for Chelsea transfer as Blues weigh up late-window move

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is reportedly keen to complete his move to Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes.

The Argentina international has already seen a proposed move to Juventus fall through and is now focused on a move to Chelsea, although the Blues have yet to make a final decision on whether to sign him.

Martinez would like a change from Chelsea

With just days left until the transfer deadline, Martinez has reportedly given his approval to Chelsea’s project and hopes the club will move for him.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the 33-year-old goalkeeper would like to move to Stamford Bridge and has already said yes to the possibility of joining Chelsea.

“Emiliano Martinez has already said yes to Chelsea’s project. He wants the transfer and hopes that #CFC changes before the deadline,” Romano wrote on X.

Chelsea have yet to make a final decision

Romano added that Tottenham are not currently involved in the race for Martinez, with the north London club happy with their current goalkeeping options.

“Tottenham are not involved at the moment because they are happy (so far) with Kinsky and Dubravka,” he said.

“The decision is Chelsea’s. Internal talks underway.”

Martinez brings world-class experience

Martinez has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers since joining Aston Villa from Arsenal in 2020.

The 33-year-old was also instrumental for Argentina, helping the national team win the 2022 FIFA World Cup and cementing his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

His experience at club and international level could make him an interesting option for Chelsea as the London club continues to evaluate its options between the sticks.

Deadline pressure is increasing

With the transfer window nearing its conclusion, Martinez will now wait for Chelsea to decide whether to turn their interest into a formal move.

For the moment the final decision rests with Chelsea, while the goalkeeper continues to hope that a late deal can be found to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
