Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have settled into their training camp in Trzebnica, Poland, and have wasted no time in stepping up preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The two-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup silver medalists began training at the Stadion Miejski, Fair Play Arena on Wednesday, with the coaching team and players displaying zeal, intensity and dedication from the start.
Upon arrival in Poland on Tuesday, the Falconets immediately resumed their training program, focusing on tactical organization, technical execution, physical conditioning and team cohesion as they continue to advance towards the championship.
As part of their final preparations, the Falconets will play two international friendly matches against Poland on August 28 and South Korea on September 1. The matches will provide valuable opportunities for players to further acclimatise to Polish conditions, test themselves against different styles of play, improve their tactical understanding and gain experience against quality opposition on the world stage.
The friendly match against the host country on Friday will take place at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg and will start at 12 noon local time. The clash with the Koreans is scheduled at the Remes Resort & Spa football stadium and will begin at 4 pm local time.
The friendly matches will also allow the technical team to evaluate the team’s progress and make necessary adjustments before the World Cup, while helping the players adapt to the pace, intensity and demands of international competition.
The pairing of captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab, who were ultimately not granted visas, have been replaced by Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi.
Head coach Moses Aduku and his technical team have continued to demand maximum commitment from the players as the team fine-tunes its focus ahead of the tournament.
Nigeria will compete in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia. The Falconets will face Spain on September 7, China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
The team will continue its training program in Trzebnica in the coming days, with preparations intensifying as the players work to make a strong impression at the world championship.
Nigeria, runners-up in the 2010 and 2014 editions, will try to go one step further in Poland and claim the country’s first FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title.
