The National President of Zaria Secondary School Senior Students Association (ZASCOSA), Esv. Dung Nehemiah Rwang, inaugurated 10 sub-committees to guide the association’s activities and prepare for the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Awards Dinner scheduled for November 2026.
Rwang inaugurated the committees on Saturday, August 29, 2026, charging members to bring their wealth of experience and professional expertise to fulfill their respective responsibilities.
The committees cover key areas including member wellbeing and health, finance and fundraising, projects and development, membership and registers, social activities, advertising and media, legal affairs, education and mentoring, business and investment, as well as diaspora engagement.
Rwang explains the reasons for the committees
Speaking during the inauguration, the ZASCOSA president said that the candidates were carefully selected in consultation with their respective presidents or representatives.
He explained that the selection was based largely on the experience and professional background of the candidates, stressing that their expertise would be invaluable in achieving the objectives for which the various committees were established.
According to him, the establishment of the committees was necessary in view of the next general assembly of the association and the awards dinner on the evening of November.
He urged the members to demonstrate commitment and give their best in the various tasks entrusted to them.
Rwang stressed that the success of the committees will largely depend on their willingness to work together and translate their mandates into practical outcomes.
Welfare committee to support members
The Health and Welfare Committee is expected to focus on the well-being of members, including visits to ill members, bereaved families and members who have welcomed new children.
The committee will also support members facing financial difficulties, although the association has made it clear that cases will first be managed at the established level before being referred to the national committee.
Only critical cases that the affected group is unable to handle will be referred to the committee.
The association further said that beneficiaries must be confirmed as bona fide registered members and financially up to date before assistance can be provided.
The committee will also organize health talks, medical awareness activities and explore insurance arrangements for members.
The Assistant National Secretary will chair the committee, with Lami Pam, Juliana Ajumma Ukoyor, Pharm. Kandi Pam, Dr. John Ali Reng, Onoja Adeyi Abraham, Dr. Salome Peter and Rose Garos Shehu among its members. All presidents or their representatives will also be part of the committee.
The finance committee assigned the fundraising role
The Finance and Fundraising Committee will be responsible for the collection of dues, levies, donations and other fundraising efforts.
His mandate also includes organizing fundraisers, dinners and lottery draws, as well as managing the association’s accounts and budget.
The committee will also seek sponsorships and partnerships that can support ZASCOSA programs and projects.
The National Financial Secretary will chair the committee, with Benley Dapiyah, Alexander Davou Gyang, Caroline Joshua and Kunle Lawal as members.
Projects committee to guide development
The Projects and Development Committee is entrusted with the responsibility of identifying priority projects for the alma mater and supervising their implementation.
Among the projects listed are classroom blocks, boreholes, libraries and sports facilities.
The committee is also expected to work with school management to identify areas requiring intervention and ensure that approved projects are executed properly.
Luther Shambor, a member of the 1988 series, will chair the committee, with Cosmos Damian-Nwoke, Anza Julius Peter, Gyang Monday Dawah and Zakari Uthman Muhammad as members.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Shambor appreciated the trust reposed in them and promised that the members will work collectively to deliver on their mandate.
Member database to be strengthened
The Membership, Database and Records Committee will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date database of ZASCOSA members worldwide.
His duties include tracking members’ birthdays, contact information and locations, welcoming new members, and helping reinstate members who have become inactive.
The committee will also monitor participation in association meetings.
The National General Secretary will chair the committee, while Abdul Lateef Lawal, Abdulrahman Galla, Esther Hwere Ching-yi and all presidents or their representatives will be its members.
The social committee prepares the meeting activities
The Socials, Entertainment and Reunion Committee will coordinate the association’s annual meeting, dinner and other social gatherings.
He will also organize games, cultural activities and awards programs, supervising the decorations, music, set-up of ceremonies and souvenirs.
The National Social Director will chair the committee, with Abigail Ajimasu, Chundung Paul, Hamza Aliyu Musa, Hauwa Bako, Brenda Bassi, Victor Samson Pam, Moses Mahanan, Martha Henry Miri, Jamba Jibson and Abubakar Mark Musa as members.
Media Committee to strengthen advertising
The Publicity and Media Committee should guide the communications and public image of the association.
His responsibilities include managing the ZASCOSA WhatsApp group and Facebook page, producing newsletters, covering events with photographs and videos, preparing press releases and congratulatory messages, and strengthening the association’s brand.
The National Publicity Secretary will chair the committee.
Members include Ameena Abdulsalam, Funmilayo Anjorin, Joshua Davou Shon, Lilian Gonji, Anthonia Nwandu, Gambo Abdullahi and Christy Davou Akpausoh, along with all set presidents or their representatives.
Legal commission to revise the Constitution
The Legal and Constitutional Review Committee will ensure that the association’s activities remain in line with its constitution.
It will also deal with disputes between members, provide legal advice and, where necessary, revise the association’s statutes.
The National Legal Counsel will chair the committee, with Samuel Dido, Esq., Matta Daniel, Esq., Cosmos Damian-Nwoke and Martha Henry Miri as members.
The Education and Mentoring Committee gets the scholarship role
The Education and Mentoring Committee will focus on academic support and tutoring for students at the alma mater.
Her responsibilities include providing scholarships for bright but deprived students, organizing career talks and mentoring programs, and supporting teachers and academic initiatives.
The prof. Makwin Danladi Makut, a member of the group since 1985, will chair the committee.
Other members are Yongme Dominic Gyang, Jonathan Rwang, Danladi Bature Danbwarang, Mary Adas Ndijidda and Mary Adamu, Esq.
Business committee to promote investments
The Business and Investment Committee will promote entrepreneurship and investment opportunities among ZASCOSA members.
It also plans to create a business directory that will allow members to identify and connect with each other for business and partnership opportunities.
The National Treasurer will chair the committee, with Solomon Chundusu, Esther Pokyes, Alh. Abbas Jimoh, Nanre Peace Samson and Yakubu Cabala as members.
The diaspora committee reaches out to alumni from around the world
The Diaspora Committee will coordinate engagement with ZASCOSA members living outside Nigeria.
His responsibilities include mobilizing donations for school projects, building international alumni networks, sharing job and business opportunities, and offering mentorship to current students.
The committee will also help the school establish connections with foreign partners, sponsors and educational exchange programs.
It will also maintain contact with former students abroad and organize physical or virtual meetings to strengthen their bond with the association.
The members of the committee are Ibrahim Ishola, Benjy and Dr Onoja Adeyi Abraham.
Members promise commitment
Speaking after their appointment, the other members of the commissions expressed appreciation for the trust placed in them and committed to working to achieve the objectives of their respective commissions.
Abdul Lateef Lawal, Danladi Bature Danbwarang, Lami Pam and Funmilayo Anjorin, among others, accepted the assignments enthusiastically and expressed optimism that the committees would fulfill their mandates.
The inauguration marks another step forward in ZASCOSA’s efforts to strengthen its organizational structure and improve coordination among its members, while broadening its contribution to the development of the alma mater.
The meeting concluded with the formal inauguration of the committees and the prayer led by the national President.
The development is expected to set the stage for preparations for the association’s November AGM and Award Night, while the various committees are expected to begin work to deliver on their respective mandates.
