NPFL: Boluwatife Ajina aims for winning start with Barau against Nasarawa United

Former ABS Ilorin FC forward, Boluwatife Jeremiah Ajina is set to begin a new chapter in his football career as he aims for a winning start in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with Barau FC.

Ajina could make his NPFL debut when Barau FC host Nasarawa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the opening match of the 2026/27 NPFL season.

The talented striker recently completed his move from ABS Ilorin FC of the Nigerian National League (NNL) to Barau FC, earning himself the opportunity to test himself at the highest level of domestic football in Nigeria.

The 2026/27 campaign represents an important milestone for Ajina, who has steadily progressed through the ranks following his emergence onto the grassroots scene.

Ajina was discovered during ABS FC’s Player Talent Development Program (PTDP) in 2024 and was subsequently promoted to the senior team where he spent two seasons and established himself as an important member of the team.

During his time with the Saraki Boys, Ajina made 30 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists. His contributions played an important role in helping ABS Ilorin FC maintain its NNL status.

The striker began his football journey at Gaa Akanbi FC before earning his chance at ABS Ilorin FC and later Barau FC.

After joining the Maliya Boys in July, Ajina has been working to adapt to his new surroundings and prepare for the demands of top-flight football.

With Barau FC facing a strong Nasarawa United in their first match, the fixture could provide Ajina with the perfect platform to announce their arrival on the NPFL stage.

The striker hopes to transfer his scoring ability and attacking qualities from the NNL to the NPFL as Barau looks to start his campaign on a positive note.

For Ajina, Sunday is more than just another soccer game. It is an opportunity to officially begin his journey in Nigeria’s top flight and demonstrate that his progression from grassroots football to the NNL can culminate in a successful career in the NPFL.

With his hard work, experience and attacking instinct, the young striker will be keen to make his mark if called upon against Nasarawa United.
