Z The Chairman of Duruojije Improvement Union, Umueze-Abazu Ogwa of Mbaitoli Local Government, Imo State, DSP Harrison Udechukwu (retd) has been re-elected for another four-year term.
In an unprecedented election that saw the introduction of the secret voting system for those physically present and the online voting system, which took care of those in the diaspora, Udechukwu emerged victorious by polling a total of 106 votes against the 76 votes cast by his opponent, Comrade Bright Iroka.
Other elected officials include the Honorable Bourdilon Ebeninye, who defeated Augustine Ejiogu 76-58 to return as Vice President; and Bartholomew Nduwuaku, who returned as general secretary to defeat Kingsley Iroka 70-46. Additionally, Christian Onuoha was elected deputy secretary; Jonathan Osuoha, Financial Secretary, Stephen Dike, Treasurer, Sabastine Olumba, PRO and Felix Anyaso, Provost.
Domestically, Joseph Dike emerged president; Chukwuma Chinekezi, Vice President; Solomon Ebeninye, secretary; Iheanyi Osuoha, Treasurer; and Tochukwu Bonifacio, provost.
Speaking shortly after declaring the election results and the winners for the different positions, Duruojije Election Committee Chairman Eddy Iwuanyanwu described the election as “a success, by any definition of success”, adding that the atmosphere, conduct and process were peaceful, which is why it produced a transparent and open result that made the losers confess that there was no reason to contest the result and embraced the winners.
A community leader, who was a commissioner in the state, Hon Barr Dan Chibuzo Iwuorie, administered the oath of office to the new officers and urged the people to appreciate the election committee for living up to expectations.
Speaking to our correspondent later, the re-elected President, DSP Harrison Udechukwu (retd.), described the election as “an innovation, being the first time that an open secret ballot system and online voting will be conducted in a village election.”
