Sokoto PDP Chairman Resigns and Appointed DG ADC Electoral Council

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto State, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Goronyo, has resigned from the party, saying his resignation was purely personal.

This was contained in a letter he sent to the PDP Chairman for Gorony Ward in Goronyo Local Government Area.

Bello said the registration will take effect Monday, Aug. 31, 2026

The letter reads as follows: “I hereby formally inform you of my intention to resign
joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Goronyo Ward, Goronyo Local Government Area, effective today. 31″ August 2026.

“The reason for my resignation is purely personal and I would like to thank the leadership and members of the party for the opportunity to serve and the experiences gained during my membership period.

“I therefore request that this letter be accepted as formal notification of my resignation and that my name be accordingly removed from the party’s membership register.”

However, in a related development, ADC governorship candidate, Alhaji Maniru Mohammed Dan Iya, has appointed Bello Goronyo, the immediate past president of the PDP, as the DG for the ADC Campaign Council in the state.

This is stated in a press release issued and made available to journalists in Sokoto by Dan Iya spokesperson, Malam Aminu Abdullahi Abubakar.

Dan Iyan described the appointment as a strategic choice that reflects the confidence of the party leadership and stakeholders in Goronyo’s experience, capacity and commitment to the development of Sokoto State.

In a congratulatory message released by his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya also described Goronyo as an experienced public servant, a seasoned politician and an accomplished public administrator whose years of service have equipped him with the institutional knowledge and basic understanding needed to run a successful campaign.

Dan’iya also acknowledged Goronyo’s experience as a former commissioner under the administration of former governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, saying his understanding of governance, public administration and political mobilization will be invaluable to the ADC’s ​​campaign.

He said the appointment brings together experience, organizational capacity and a clear understanding of the political realities of Sokoto State at a critical period when people are demanding responsible, responsive and proactive leadership.

The ADC candidate expressed confidence that Goronyo will deploy his expertise to unite party structures, strengthen grassroots mobilization and effectively communicate the vision of the ADC to the people of Sokoto.

He urged the new Director-General to work closely with party leaders, stakeholders, candidates, youth, women and supporters across the 23 local government areas to build an inclusive campaign that reaches every community.

Dan’iya said the ADC’s campaign will focus on issues that directly affect the people, including security, education, healthcare, agriculture, employment, civil service reform, infrastructure and economic empowerment.

He called on all party members and supporters to give Bello Aliyu Goronyo their full cooperation and support, stressing that the success of the 2027 campaign will require unity, discipline, commitment and collective responsibility.
