Former ABS midfielder Hannafi makes Niger Tornadoes debut with victory over Enyimba

Former ABS Ilorin FC midfielder Babatunde Hannafi marked his Niger Tornadoes debut in memorable fashion after helping Ikon Allah Boys to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Enyimba FC in their NPFL27 opener at the renovated Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna.

Hannafi, who joined the Niger Tornadoes this summer after a brief spell at Kwara United, was given the starting job and remained on the pitch from start to finish as the hosts held their nerve to claim the three points.

The midfielder put in a composed performance in the middle of the park as the Tornadoes battled through a tense encounter that saw Aliyu Mohammed Goyi give the hosts the lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.

Enyimba responded in the second half, with Wonah Williams heading in an Iheme Peculiar free-kick in the 71st minute to restore parity.

However, Niger Tornadoes regained the lead in the 82nd minute when substitute Michael Olalusi produced a brilliant finish that had the home fans celebrating and ensured a winning start to the campaign.

For Hannafi, the victory made his first competitive appearance for the Minna team even more special as he began his new chapter with three points against one of the biggest clubs in Nigerian football.

The former ABS Ilorin FC midfielder will now look to build on his impressive start as the Niger Tornadoes prepare for their next NPFL27 match at Kano Pillars.
