The very skilled artist, Obedo PF, comes out with a new street-smart track called “Wayo”.

“Wayo” is Lagos slang for deception, swindling techniques and the kind of street experience that keeps a man ahead. This returns to something more realistic after the football machismo of “Ronaldo”. It seems that Obedo PF is telling secrets instead of putting them into practice.

The instrumental here is lighter than on his last two releases. Most have a guitar loop running through them and a relaxed shaker pattern. It doesn’t have the low-end pressure of “Ronaldo” and this gap allows the plot to have more weight.

Slow down the flow a bit in this case; it’s almost colloquial in places. He doesn’t try to prove anything; he simply recounts street situations with a knowing smile. “That patience in his delivery actually makes the bars hit harder.”

The lyrics revolve around fast-paced stories, near misses, and the little perks that come with keeping your head on a swivel. Here too nothing seems exaggerated for the sake of shock. It seems more like a memory than a performance and this makes the record honest.

Three more tracks and Obedo PF changes perspective again without losing his fundamental voice. “Wayo” replaces the gym intensity of “Ronaldo” with something more akin to street wisdom. That range is starting to feel like its true signature.
