Osimhen: Galatasaray boss gives update on Nigerian’s injuries

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has provided an update on Victor Osimhen after the Nigerian striker suffered an injury during Friday night’s 3-2 win over Istanbul Başakşehir.

Osimhen opened the scoring for the defending champions in the 13th minute, finishing clinically after latching onto a pass from Lucas Torreira.

However, the 27-year-old’s impressive start to the match was cut short after suffering an injury later in the first half.

The striker received treatment on the field before being replaced by Barış Alper Yılmaz in the 33rd minute.

Buruk confirms groin problem

Buruk revealed after the match that Osimhen felt discomfort in his groin and will undergo further medical checks to determine the extent of the injury.

“Osimhen also feels something today. We need to see how things go,” Buruk told the official club website.

“The groin area, of course, is prone to injury… It’s a relatively harmless area and heals much faster than the hamstring. That’s why it needs to be examined and MRIs done.”

Galatasaray now hope the injury is not serious, with another important match on the horizon.

The Sporting Lisbon test is approaching

Osimhen faces a race to be fit for Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon next Tuesday.

The powerful striker has been in excellent form this season, registering six goals and two assists in four league games for the yellow and red.
