Police and Air Force strengthen joint security operations ahead of 2027 elections

Abuja (Core Reporters) – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have agreed to strengthen interagency cooperation, intelligence sharing and joint operations to address emerging security threats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolution was reached on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, received the Chief of Staff, Air Marshal SK Aneke, on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit focused on deepening collaboration between the two security institutions in tackling terrorism, banditry, insurgency and other violent crimes.

The Chief of Air Staff commended the long-standing professional relationship between the Police and the Air Force, while acknowledging the support provided by the NPF Air Wing to the Nigerian Air Force.

He underlined the need for continued collaboration in joint operations, intelligence sharing and strengthening air support to police operations.

Discussions during the meeting covered aerial surveillance and reconnaissance, tactical deployment, medical evacuation, joint training and improving operational coordination.

In response, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Police Force to deepen its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force through joint training, capacity building, intelligence-led operations and sustained operational support.

Disu also emphasized personnel welfare, effective command and control and coordinated security planning, especially for major national events and the 2027 general elections.

He also called for increased protection of critical national infrastructure, improved logistics and response capabilities, as well as periodic reviews of joint operations to ensure greater effectiveness.

The NAF delegation included Chief of Training, Air Vice Marshal AY Dari; Chief of Operations, Air Vice Marshal PN Amadi; Chief of Air Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal NN Ananaba; Provost Marshal of the Air, Air Vice Marshal JI Ukeh; Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal AA Martins; Director of Operations, Air Vice Marshal AO Bamidele; Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore EA Ejodame; CAS Principal Staff Officer, Air Commodore HI Eze; and Coordination by CAS Staff Officer, Group Captain FO Olanrewaju.

The police said the commitment underlines its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with sister security agencies and building a more integrated security response to protect lives, property and critical national assets across the country.
