In an important and traditional elevation, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, together with his wife Adenike, were installed as Gbademu and Yeye Gbademu of Owu Kingdom respectively.
The award ceremony, which took place on Tuesday at the Olowu Palace of Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta, brought together eminent traditional rulers, political leaders and dignitaries from across the country, including Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, wife of former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Presenting the titles, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, described Adebutu as a personality of unquestionable character, whose public record informed the kingdom’s decision to honor him.
Oba Matemilola charged the new chief to leverage his traditional position to promote socio-economic growth across the dominion and the state at large.
”This title is a recognition of his personality, his commitment to the people and his ability to contribute to the development of our kingdom.
“I urge you to work hard and use this honor to promote development in Owu and Ogun State,” he said
In response, Chief Adebutu described the role of chief as a calling to higher national and regional service rather than merely a ceremonial badge.
He reaffirmed his family’s historical ties to Abeokuta and pledged to exert his influence towards regional development.
”We will use this title to bring development, not only in Owu Kingdom but also in Egba and Ogun State in general.
“My family has deep roots in Abeokuta, and this recognition is therefore very dear to us. We see it as a call to contribute more significantly to the growth and development of our people,” Adebutu added.
Meanwhile, the Yeye Gbademu, Adenike Adebutu, has expressed gratitude to the royal stool, vowing to focus her new role on grassroots community well-being, especially supporting initiatives targeting women and family advancement across the state.
