Californian dies after boat capsizes in Georgian Bay: OPP

A California resident died in Georgian Bay after Ontario Provincial Police say a boat capsized over the weekend.

At approximately 12:30 pm on Sunday, the West Parry Sound OPP Marine Unit responded to a capsized vessel in Georgian Bay, north of Franklin Island. Police were assisted by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Carling Fire Brigade and Killbear Marina.

OPP said the sole occupant of the boat died and has since been identified as a 67-year-old man from California.

The vessel has been removed from the bay and the OPP said its investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP’s technical collision investigation team.
