The first week of SHOWTIME Bowl Series
With the Lagos Knights opening their title defense in devastating fashion, the Lagos Rebels producing a 56-point offensive display and the Ibom Raptors emerging from a much tighter contest, Week One wasn’t simply about collecting wins. It was also about players starting to build their identities, teams establishing early standards, and SHOWTIME’s expanding statistics and player rating system giving fans another way to understand who really influenced each game.

Defending champions Lagos Knights earned the biggest win of the week, defeating Delta Braves 60-7 in a resounding start to their campaign. The Knights, who won their first SHOWTIME Bowl championship last season, immediately showed that the celebrations haven’t dampened their appetite for success.
At the center of the performance was Kayode Mafe. The Season XIV MVP began the new campaign with another impressive display and was rewarded with a perfect 10.0 rating. Mafe repeatedly unlocked the Delta defense, connecting with several receivers for touchdowns as the Knights built a commanding lead.
But perhaps one of the most significant developments for Lagos was the performance of Anyaorah Lotanna, who also received a rating of 10.0. Lotanna repeatedly connected with Mafe for touchdowns, giving the champions another important attacking weapon and showing why tracking individual players could become one of the most compelling features of Series XV.
Fatai Praise, with a rating of 7.7, was another good player for the Knights, while Delta Braves will have a lot to evaluate after a difficult early task. The 60-7 result gives Lagos an explosive start, but with the season still young, it is only the first chapter in the defense of their title.
If the Knights obtained the highest score, the Lagos Rebels were not far behind.
The Rebels overwhelmed Cross River Ikan Sports 56-13, and two more players joined the Week One perfect rating club. Fawaz Azeez and Sulaimon Alhameen received ratings of 10.0, reflecting their influence in an attacking performance that repeatedly strained the Cross River defense.
Alhameen orchestrated much of the quarterback’s damage, while Fawaz emerged as a devastating scoring target. The combination repeatedly produced touchdowns and quickly turned the contest in favor of the Lagos Rebels.
There was also quality around him. Divine Eric recorded a rating of 8.4, Mofeoluwa Akinrinmade finished with 8.3, Ruth Chilaka scored 7.7 and Onyinye Udueze recorded 7.5, demonstrating the number of contributors behind the Rebels’ opening win.
Cross River Ikan Sports may have suffered a defeat but Abayomi Agbayewa’s score of 7.4 was one of the positives from their initial appearance. The challenge now will be to convert individual shining moments into greater consistency as Series XV unfolds.
The closest contest of the week was between Ibom Raptors and Lagos Greenbacks, and it provided a very different test.
Ibom Raptors emerged with a 21-12 victory, although play-by-play data provided by SHOWTIME’s game page records scoring sequences reaching 21-14, meaning the final published score and detailed game record appear to contain a discrepancy that may require clarification. The official score chart lists the game as 21-12.
What there is no doubt is that this was a much more competitive match than the two big blowouts of the week.
Raptors quarterback Taiwo Oluwalanu received the team’s highest grade at 7.5, while Aisha Raji Oluwatosin earned a 7.0 and Moyosore Adolphus earned a 6.6. Lagos Greenbacks defender Precious George recorded a 7.6, the highest rating shown among the Greenbacks, after making her presence felt defensively, including several pass breakups. Emmanuel Ojirinnaka also posted a solid 7.0 rating.
Together, the three results produced an intriguing opening picture: Lagos Knights and Lagos Rebels provided the fireworks, while Ibom Raptors showed that they can navigate a considerably tighter contest.
But perhaps the most exciting part of the first week was the appearance of the perfect 10.

That gives SHOWTIME something increasingly valuable as the league grows: identifiable stars backed by visible performance data. Fans are no longer limited to knowing who won and who lost. They can follow player rankings, positions, match events and individual performances, creating debates about who stood out, who is improving and who could become the next big name in Nigerian flag football.
It is also important from a commercial point of view. Sponsors who watch SHOWTIME don’t just see teams playing games; They are seeing athletes with individual identities, measurable performances, and stories that can be followed throughout a season. Every touchdown, interception, score and standout performance creates another opportunity to promote athletes and deepen the connection between players, fans and brands.
That is why Serie XV could become an important season for the league. Delta Braves, Cross River Ikan Sports and Lagos Greenbacks now have the opportunity to respond.
A week cannot define a season, but it can present it.
