Mangut frustrated by Nasarawa United’s draw with Rivers United

Nasarawa United technical advisor Mbwas Mangut has expressed his frustration after his team drew 1-1 with Rivers United at home on Sunday.

The Solid Miners fell behind in the 68th minute when centre-back Harrison Ebah inadvertently deflected the ball into his own goal while attempting to clear, giving Rivers United the lead.

Nasarawa United responded strongly and were awarded a penalty seven minutes from time after Habibu Alakija was brought down inside the area.

Substitute Musa Yakubu kept his composure from the penalty spot, sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction to level the score and rescue a point for the home team.

Mangut reflects on home draw

Despite the result, Mangut was unhappy with his team’s failure to capitalize on their opportunities and also questioned the referees’ decision not to award Nasarawa United two earlier penalties.

“It was a balanced match and both teams expressed themselves. We conceded a defensive error, but we were able to get back into the game,” Mangut told the Club’s media.

“I’m not happy with the result, but I’ve seen a big improvement in my team. We kept pushing until the mistake came, and even after conceding, we kept pushing.

“As far as I’m concerned, there were three penalties in our favor in this game. One came in the first half, when they grabbed my player by the shoulder when he had a clear goal. The other was when our player was fouled from behind inside the area.”
