“Defend Folake Marcus-Bello, integrity cannot be bought,” by Akintunde Hassan

Recent political discourse in Ogun State has once again brought to the fore the troubling intersection between transactional opportunism and courageous public commentary.
When respected leaders like Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello (FMB) step forward to interrogate institutional anomalies and question political narratives, they do so from a place of pedigree, public service and genuine stakeholder concern.
Attempting to muzzle or discredit a distinguished diplomat and statesman of his caliber is a futile undertaking. FMB has consistently maintained a legacy defined by intellectual rigor, dignity and an unwavering commitment to responsibility. His voice cannot be easily dismissed by political workers whose main qualification is the temporary support of deep pockets.

Segun Sowunmi’s curious flip-flops
Even more ridiculous – and frankly tragic – is the sudden and unscrupulous attitude of people like Segun Sowunmi. It is public knowledge how standard political integrity operates: either you hold fast to your stated beliefs or you become a cautionary tale of political commercialization.

For a man who has often portrayed himself as a progressive alternative, watching Sowunmi perform a rapid gravity-defying somersault into a sudden, money-induced alignment with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) is the height of hypocrisy. Only yesterday, this same vocal critic was warning anyone who cared to listen about the dangers of state capture and political imposition.

Today, intoxicated by the heady scent of sudden financial incentives, the rhetoric has conveniently softened into songs of praise.

“A principled voice is not in favor of renting, and political comments anchored on monetary convenience are nothing more than a betrayal of collective trust.”

Defend the sacred mandate of truth
Ogun State politics has always been defined by independent thinking, intense debate and fierce resistance to political horse-trading.
Leaders like Folake Marcus-Bello represent the enduring conscience of that tradition, refusing to sell out for a plate of lentils.

Those who mortgage their voices to sudden financial heat may temporarily dominate the headlines, but discerning audiences see through the theatrical spectacle. True political capital is based on coherence, character and respect for people, qualities that no sudden sum of electoral money can ever purchase.
